In all seriousness

Dear Blog,

In place of my normally vague, emo and angry posts, I would like to talk about something very close to my heart, and even closer to my stomach.

Is it just me..

Or is Nasi Lemak the best thing that the Malay culture has brought to Malaysians and Singaporeans since cheesy Malay dramas ("You dan I tak possible nak bersame you know?")on TV??

The rich coconut rice..

The fresh chunks or slices of cucumber

The sweet and spicy sambal (even better with chunky bits of onion and ikan bilis in them)

The hard boiled egg.

The crunchy and salty ikan bilis and peanuts.

And if you're lucky (code word for "willing to pay for it"), a generous helping of curry or rendang with the yummy gravy soaking the rice.

What is not to love about this dish that is mind-bogglingly simple in theory but so complex in flavour that you just have to have more? and MORE? and MORE??

I actually salivate at the thought of eating a serve of nasi lemak with my bare hands. There is nothing like manually mixing the food around and algamating all the flavours and delivering mouthfuls of awesome goodness until the last morsel when you kick yourself for wolfing the whole thing down so quickly.

If there were three top things I crave for the most, it would be, sashimi, alcohol and nasi lemak. In no particular order.

The bane of nasi lemak is the fact that you cannot get away with making one serve of nasi lemak for yourself whenever you feel like it. It is a notoriously laborious process because there are just so many elements in that one dish that it is only feasible to make when you are feeding a large group.

Or if you did try cooking it for yourself, you'd be eating it for a week straight. And you don't want to put the words "coconut" and "days in the fridge" together.

No sirree.

I LOVE NASI LEMAK!!!!!!!
